Trick or Treat

Zack had a great Halloween this year. Last year he wasn't quite sure about everyone in costume, this year he was excited when people would come to the door. From 4pm to about 6pm, we handed out candy. He did really well. The first few kids had a harder time getting candy (he didnt want to part with it), but after a sucker, he decided that it was ok to share.
After a while, he decided that EVERYONE needed to see Nugget's pumpkin, so he carried around the yard, showed it to each visitor, and

proudly announced "baby!" each time someone asked him what he had.
After a quick dinner, we did some trick or treating at friend's houses. While I wanted to take him to more houses, I realized I would be taking away more candy from him than it was really worth. Plus it was cold, I was tired, and I didnt really want to carry him around the block (he refused to ride in the stroller). He was excited to get suckers and fruit snacks at their houses, but was more excited to run inside and play!

One of my old college buddies, gave me a good idea for next year. Since Zack will be old enough to go around trick or treating, but not old enough to understand why he can't eat every piece of candy that he gets, she suggested to have the "great pumpkin" visit. Zack could keep a few pieces of "safe" candy and the rest would be set out for the 'great pumpkin' to come and get. In return, the 'great pumpkin' would leave him a book or toy.
So that is the plan for next year. We know we cant have every neighboor hand out 'Zack safe'


treats, but this is the next best thing. He can still go, still have fun, and still get some candy! (and mom and dad can have some too!)
